DENTAL IMPLANTS

MULTIPLE & SINGLE DENTAL IMPLANTS

The Krupp Center focuses on restorative dentistry and bone preservation. In fact, Dr. Krupp was the first surgeon to perform breakthrough Teeth-In-An-Hour, dental implant surgery in Baltimore. Dr. Krupp is also one of the foremost experts in the mid-Atlantic using a procedure called All-On-Four.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth that replaces a tooth that has been taken out. Implants are natural-looking, can provide support for dentures, and do not affect the teeth bordering them. They are as stable as your real teeth and protect you from the loss of jawbone, which occurs when you lose teeth.

You may need an implant if you have lost a tooth because of tooth decay or an accident. To receive an implant, you need to have healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant.

what-are-the-advantages-of-dental-implants

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. And because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent.

    Improved appearance.
  • With poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur your words. Dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that teeth might slip.

    Improved speech
  • Because they become part of you, implants eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures.

    Improved comfort.
  • Sliding dentures can make chewing difficult. Dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain.

    Easier eating
  • Dental implants can give you back your smile and help you feel better about yourself.

    Improved self-esteem
  • Dental implants don’t require reducing other teeth, as a tooth-supported bridge does. Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving long-term oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, improving oral hygiene.

    Improved oral health
  • Implants are very durable and will last many years. With good care, many implants last a lifetime.

    Durability
  • Removable dentures are just that; removable. Dental implants eliminate the embarrassing inconvenience of removing dentures, as well as the need for messy adhesives to keep them in place.

Can Anyone Get Dental Implants?

In most cases, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. Patients should have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. They also must be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Heavy smokers, people suffering from uncontrolled chronic disorders — such as diabetes or heart disease — or patients who have had radiation therapy to the head/neck area need to be evaluated on an individual basis.

Replace Teeth Permanently‎

If you have a missing tooth, you might not feel like smiling. But you don’t have to live with an embarrassing gap between your teeth if you don’t want to. Plenty of options exist to replace a missing tooth. That’s good to know because a missing tooth doesn’t just leave a hole in your smile — it may also affect how you speak and chew. And if a missing tooth isn’t replaced, the teeth around it begin to move. Shifting teeth create new crevices for dental plaque to hide in, which can lead to tooth decay and the need for a tooth filling or gum disease treatment down the road.

Implant dentistry is a popular option for replacing a missing tooth. Rather than resting on the gum line like removable dentures or using adjacent teeth as anchors like a dental bridge, dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone where they act as an anchor for replacement teeth. A dental implant looks and feels like a natural tooth, allowing you to chew and speak just like you did before.

all-on-four

All-On-4

Get Permanent Teeth In One Day

This “All-on-Four” solution is attractive to patients wanting to get rid of their dentures, and to people with failing teeth in need of a full upper and/or lower restoration. This procedure, as the name implies, only requires four dental implants per jaw to support a fully customized set of replacement teeth. The entire “All-on-Four” treatment is completed while the patient is comfortably asleep using sedation dentistry, and the best part is that the procedure is painless and the patient receives their full set of replacement teeth in just 24 hours.

How do All-on-4 dental implants compare to traditional implants?

The All-on-4 dental implant technique utilizes only four implants per arch, whereas traditional implants utilize anywhere from six to eight implants, or more, in each arch. The implants of the All-on-4 procedure are also placed at an angle, which allows for increased contact by using the natural support of your bone. In addition, the All-on-4 procedure requires no bone grafting for most patients, which is common in traditional implant procedures. Therefore, All-on-4 dental implants save time, money, and discomfort.

How long is the All-on-4 dental implant surgery?

The surgery takes approximately 2.5 hours per arch.

Teeth In An Hour

State-Of-the-Art Tooth Replacement

Nobel Biocare™ has created the Teeth-in-an-Hour™ process. The name is self-explanatory, but what is so unique is the state-of-the-art process this product employs.

This system is all computer enabled. The majority of work is done in the planning stage, so the patient only needs dental surgery for — quite literally — one hour. Once complete, the patient goes from totally toothless to a full mouth of functioning permanent teeth.

How Do They Make Teeth-in-an-Hour?

Actually, it’s not the teeth that are made in an hour but rather the time it takes to surgically place your new implant teeth.
The pre-surgery visit is when the magic happens:
– CT Scan of jaw bones
– CAD/CAM
– Engineered by Nobel
– Length and width of bone is assessed
– Position of dental implant decided
– Information e-mailed to Nobel labs in Sweden

Within two weeks, a Nobel Guide surgical template is returned, along with specially designed, pre-manufactured pieces. The precise nature of this guide makes for an easy and comfortable oral surgery. Since the majority of the work is done before you’re in the chair, this is a greatly improved technique for the patient. It cuts healing time greatly and the patient is able to get back to a normal life. In addition, implant rejection and/or complications are greatly reduced.

After Your Dental Implant Procedure

After Care for Multiple & Single Dental Implants

You may have swelling and/or tenderness for a few days after the surgery, Dr. Krupp may provide medication that would help. Dr. Krupp may also suggest that you eat only soft foods for a period of time.

After your treatment, you may no longer have to remove your teeth for cleaning or soaking, as you do with traditional dentures.

It is just as important to brush and floss implants as it is with natural teeth. If bacteria and plaque is allowed to build up on implants, you can end up with gum disease and bone loss.
